Mention the name Deborah Still in South Canterbury and most people know she’s a highly regarded interior designer, but apart from knowing she has grown the company from its beginnings 25 years ago, people often ask “Who is Deborah at home?"
Discreet and private, she treats her clients the same way; protecting their homes and private lives with a passion even if it shrouds her work in mystery.
It’s not that Deborah doesn’t want the world to share her clients’ creations, it’s just that their needs come first – but she loves it when they celebrate publicly.
“I value quality, beauty and aesthetics and it doesn’t always have to cost a lot of money to get that, every day I’m looking for items that will work in designs and that might even be a hidden gem at a garage sale-I’m always striving.”
Finding joy in perfect detail (something critical to a successful designer), in the budding of small bulbs, asleep all winter in the garden and suddenly springing into life with the new season’s warmth.
“As a child, my whole world revolved around entertaining myself with colouring books, crayons and pencils all around me. I developed a fascination for the way that colours and textures worked together. It was a natural evolution to then become a designer.”
