The conversion of this former BNZ Bank in Timaru to an inner-city apartment was an exciting project. I’ve have always had a passion for the industrial design and I enjoy seeing form and function work together. I don’t believe they are mutually exclusive. Every item was designed with my John’s style in mind. From the shelves and doors through to the poured concrete kitchen island. We wanted to create an industrial design that gave a nod to the age and beauty of the former bank. Including keeping the exposed poured concrete ceilings, bank vaults and ducting.
The builder ” Silver Fern Construction” did a beautiful job of hand making many of the items in this home including the wooden hand basin and the hanging pot plant holders.
The steel plate wallpaper from Andrew Martin in the main entrance added to this industrial design. The exterior of the apartment was given an aged steel product to add to its sense of age.
“From the moment I discussed my ideas with Deborah she had a real understanding of my design requirements. Deborah has transformed a commercial building into a functional and aesthetically pleasing industrial apartment. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Deborah and truly appreciate all her expertise. This was an enjoyable experience with an extremely successful outcome.”
