Jolly Burgers & Beers
After being a neighbourhood stalwart for over 35 years, this Temuka bar and restaurant required a sympathetic, updated interior to match its new direction.
“Good design is a language, not a style.”
- Family-friendly pub environment
- Inviting, modern decor
- Warm, cosy colour palette
Working within the confines of the existing premises, the redesign holds on to the friendly essence of the previous business while providing a contemporary, welcoming place to meet, eat, and relax. Both regular South Canterbury clientele and new arrivals can appreciate the warm new look of this classic venue.
The existing brick wall was retained, with a distressed tile bar frontage added in a similar colour palette to connect the two elements and create a sense of ambience. Timber dining furniture and sage green banquettes and couches provide easy-clean, comfortable seating options.
A previously uninviting, enclosed space to the rear of the bar is fitted with acoustic panelling and furnished with couches to cater to more intimate chats away from the main bar area. A wide screen TV here means this space can also be used for sports viewing.
Extra details such as the Mind the Gap cutlery wallpaper in the bathrooms, the feature clock above the fireplace, and the framed guitar artwork lend character and whimsy to the restaurant, reiterating its friendly neighborhood atmosphere.
